Gabions are an efficient method of retaining wall construction construction offering low cost, easy installation and generally requiring the minimum of foundation or drainage. Principally they are designed as mass gravity structure. RIVER WALLS
The most advantage of using flexible gabions for river walls is that excavation in the bed can be kept to a minimum. The wall itself must be designed and checked for stability as a retaining structure, but to prevent undermining the structure.
LININGS
A gabion mattress lining will normally be more economical to construct and it will prevent erosion of the river bank.
